To start off, these 10 picks are in no specific order. I love them all. I listen to them all on a daily basis. Everyday a new one is my favorite depending on the mood I'm in. My playlist is on shuffle when picking these poems. With that being said, I hope this post helps whomever is reading it finds a new found love for poetry.

10. Second Guessing by Scorpio Blues

Why I Love it: I feel like every woman can relate to something she says throughout this poem. We just need to let it go. In the end the truth comes out. And that's the biggest relief.

Favorite Lines: I could never fully get with loving somebody wholeheartedly and not getting that shit back.

Having total control of a situation is knowing you have no control at all.

What to take away: The truth will always come out. You don't need to investigate, stalk, or question to find it. Eventually it just comes out. THE TRUTH ALWAYS COMES OUT.

9. For Your Own Protection by Georgia Me

Why I Love it: I like how she points out in the past she let certain things slide, but now she won't. I always loved this poem. I'm not gonna go into a ten page paper about it. Just watch the video and take the message with you.

Favorite Lines: I've heard all the lines, I won't be living proof.

What to Take Away: HAVE SAFE SEX! (that is all)

8. Friend Zone by Consequence

Why I Love it: Makes me wonder how many guys I had feeling this type of way...Not that I'm hanging with a ton of dudes so don't start yall, but its a funny take on the man's mindset.

Favorite Line: When I see your number, I let the machine answer because the only friends I need are Rachel, Ross, and Chandler.

What to Take Away: Nothing I can really think of. Pure entertainment though.

7. Woman to Woman by Thea Monyee

Why I Love it: Sis read the side chick. She read her before read was even a thing. Her presence, demeanor, and sureness in herself radiates in this poem just from how she speaks every word.

What to Take Away: Being the side chick is never cool, cute or in.

6. Thick Chicks by Tamara Blue

Why I Love it: Her confidence is overly adorable. She makes me love my body and I listen to this poem on days where I don't feel so confident.

Favorite Line: 169lbs at 5'3, but grown men quiver when they look at me.

What to Take Away: Being called thick is a compliment and you should love your body however.

5. Bittersweet by Kanye West

Why I Love it: I love the flow early Kanye has. Poems and songs. He kept the flow of this throughout. I like how he did his cocky Kanye thing in the beginning.

Favorite Lines: Make Black History everyday, I don't need a month!

Ralph Lauren was boring before Kanye wore him.

I love you and hate you at the very same time.

What to Take Away: I took away a toxic relationship from this poem. He loves her a lot, probably more than he's ever loved another woman. But he also fights with her worst than he has others. Maybe I'm looking too much into it.

4. Wife, Woman, Friend Part l and ll. by Dana Gilmore

Why I Like it: Gilmore speaks volume with these poems. She tells a story most women know all to well. Completely relatable.

Favorite Lines: Just because I'm crying yall, don't mean that I'm the victim.

I should've never put my heart in my heads position.

In part ll when she talks about all the men she's dealt with. THAT WHOLE PART.

I know you think you own it, but he put it in

Him for you, that's like more for less.

What to Take Away: Ladies, I think the important takeaway of Part l is her saying everything she did for him she did out of love. But this love was one sided. He took advantage of her love for him. With that being said, she's not giving up on love. Just next time around she's going to make sure its real.

3. Sick and Tired by Shihan

Why I Like it: Lifelong messages within this poem. Relevant then and relevant now.

Favorite Line: I'm sick of everybody trying to be in the entertainment industry cause soon they'll be no audience just a bunch of monkeys onstage dancing.

What to Take Away: He's sick and tired of this generation. Replace some of the names with current people in the media and you can understand it even better.

2. This Type Love by Shihan (My first Def Jam Poem I EVER HEARD)

Why I Like it: If you know me, you know I am a fan of love, but not for myself. BUT this poem makes me wanna fall in love. Like really fall in love. This will be the only time I say this. I love this poem SO SO SO SO much. Definitely one of my favorite.

Favorite Line: I love the whole thing. Can't pick just one or two or three or four.

What to Take Away: Men aren't terrible all the time.

1. Psychotic Bitch by Mollie Angleheart

Why I Like it: Sis was spitting every line. She was through and I felt it. I've been a psychotic bitch a few times so I understand it lol.

Favorite Line: I don't know what I need to do because I put a roof over our head, I'm damn good in bed, hell yes I give head, I throw down in the kitchen. Never do a lot of bitchin, help take care of your children, do all the books and the billing. I am mad loyal.

What to Take Away: Be an independent woman. Do your own thing. The men will come and go.

YOU HAVE REACHED THE END! I hope you've gotten a glimpse of who am I from these poems. They are near and dear to my heart. I hope in reading this post you found atleast one you like or can relate to. Till next time

XOXO
